A Little Closer Up

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

I'm done with the wide shots, so now it's time to pull apart the stadium and push the ol' camera in. I personally love getting in close with these guys, the detail on there face is so haunting. There's nothing there, but yet it says so much.

How do you like the "C" I painted on the helmets? Could it look any bigger? I also really enjoy the not so perfect world these guys live in. And I'm not just talking about the over-sized cracked footballs they use, but I love when the paint has tiny imperfections, as if they were not all created equal or fairly at all. It's as if their lives are one big cruel joke.

Field of Dreams Too

After tweaking away at the lights and doing some hard core rigging (thanks to Bryan Garver of Portland, OR) I Finished the stadium lights. So the set is all lit for the wide shot, which I'll see if I can bang out tomorrow. I'm making no promises though.

Thanks again Garvs...you are missed.

Field of Dreams

Sunday, February 25, 2007

Now the field is all done, graphics are in place, people are in the stands, brats are being served. The lighting is almost done except for the "actual" stadium lights. I have to rig something for those bad boys to light up.

All of the figures are painted and glossed over a few times to give them that Shiny Plastic People look the kids crave these days, and I still have a few props to make. Dick, where you at?

I also found a black widow in the studio yesterday, which makes two that I have found inside the studio, and 4 I have found on the outside. But who's counting? If I get bit Screen-Novelties Int. will get my medical bill.

Here is an image from the Super Bowl XLI short we are working on. The field that they are standing on is complete, but I'm still working on the stadium behind them. You can also see our brand new logo to the bottom right. More on that later.

Sets and Puppets

Saturday, February 17, 2007

We have been working on the sets and puppets for our latest short, which will forever be known as from this day forth as; "Super Bowl XLI- Bad News, Bears". This is part of Make Out City's "Gridiron Poppycock" series of recreations of games I feel cool enough. This fits the bill.

The exterior of the stadium looks great, and the interior is coming along nicely as well. Liz has been doing a stellar job of painting the figures, which I'll show next week. Here is a picture of the stadium exterior, and here is a test frame from Hesters kick off
return.

Here is Pro Player Stadium.

I think I covered all of the basses.

Super Bowl XLI

Thursday, February 15, 2007

Make Out City Studios have been very busy bees lately. We have been up to our ear wax in recreating on of the greatest Super Bowls of the last two years, Super Bowl XLI. Some of you were lucky enough to watch it with us, while others....well, there is always next year.

We are trying very hard to balance this exciting project along with some other things...such as relaxing and traveling. I'll put up some production pictures later this week for your viewing enjoyment.

Disaster! Own it today!

"The new stop-motion feature film Disaster! does to Armageddon and Twister what Airplane! did to the Airport films of the 1970s. Finally available on DVD, the adult-oriented comedy tempers some genius satire with crude potty humor to provide a fun ride that gives the latest generation of disaster pics a long-overdue kick in the asteroid."

Awhile back Liz and I worked briefly on a stop-motion feature called Disaster!, that most people stopped asking about. It was shot right here in beautiful North Hollywood, also home to Make Out City Studios and Miracle Baby Productions.

Disaster! had an amazing crew, with such amazing animators as.....too many too list. We had a great time on that, although the building we shot in was kinda nasty.

Go here to buy it.

Go here to read an article about it.

Our good friend Tennessee just finished working on a really creative music video for Norah Jones with a good chunk of stop-motion in it. Here are some images that I am borrowing from T's website.

You can watch "Sinkin' Soon" here, and don't forget to stop by T's website and give him feedback you leeches.
