Moral Orel and Robot Chicken and Comic-Con

Tuesday, August 29, 2006

This is a follow up to the Comic-Con ramblings that I had a few weeks ago. After some real intense web searching, I found some great gems about the Adult Swim panel that the writers from Moral Orel and Robot Chicken were on. Go here for the website, which contains video clips and pictures from the event.

See Dino get his drunk on!
See Jay wear panties!
Hear Scott's sweet voice!
Watch Seth sign Matt's cast!

And much more!

Bye Bye Scott

Monday, August 28, 2006

Last Friday was co-writer/co-director Scott Adsit's last day at Moral Orel Season 2. He has left us for New York City and a role on the new comedy series "30 Rock". He will be sorely missed but we certainly wish him the best.

San Francisco Treat

Some of you have already been lucky enough to have seen this, but for those few who haven't, here is Make Out City Studios latest creation.

NFL VERSION

PACKER VERSION

We recreated one of the greatest bloopers of all time, using the real audio and studying each frame of the play to make it as accurate as possible. For our first episode we revisited Jim Marshall's wrong way run. Here's the backstory:

In 1964 the Minnesota Vikings were in San Francisco playing the 49ers (I'm talking football here) and Jim Marshall picked up a fumble and ran the wrong direction, threw it in the endzone, and therefore scored on himself. Brilliant! This play was destined to be relived on the electric gridiron, so please enjoy.

We'll write more about this later this week, along with details for upcoming spots as well as behind the scenes pictures...oh boy!

Harva What?

Thursday, August 17, 2006

Contrary to popular belief, this blog is not the Harvablog. There is a whole other blog out there, chock full of Harvatine goodness! This magical blog attempts to chronical the softer side of Make Out City Studios...the personal side. So if you need a breather from all of the hardcore stop-motion blogging that goes on here, the Harvablog can be yours with just the click of your mouse. And what's even better...the Harvablog is now totally new and totally improved.

Tuesday, August 15, 2006

Sorry readers for not posting in the last few days but we've been busy. Man, were we ever busy! This picture should say it all but if it doesn't, check out the Harvablog to learn more about our weekend.

Little Jimmy Johnson Has Something To Sell

Thursday, August 10, 2006

Over at their West Hollywood Studio, Misha Klein and Ethan Marak directed and animated three short stop-motion spots for a Levi Strauss Signature website. The shorts feature the bobblehead side-kick of NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson. Not this Jimmy Johnson. They had some very talented guest animators as well, including Josh Jennings, Chris Calvi, Sihanouk Mariona, and Richard Zimmerman.

Here is the link to the website that they created animation for.

And here is a link to Ethan's website talking about the project further with more behind the scenes fun.

Great job Ethan and Misha on a directing job well done. You guys made some really fun spots. OH, and don't forget to click around on the Levi website to help those guys look good!

The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D in L.A.

Tuesday, August 08, 2006

As many of us already know, The Nightmare Before Christmas is being released in 3D this year for the first time.

Here is a trailer that Disney has made for it, and here is the ticket information if you are in L.A. It's going to be at the El Capitan from October 19th through the 31st.

Sound like it's going to be a real blast, so don't miss out on all of the awesome fun waiting to be had.

The Art of Stop-Motion

Sunday, August 06, 2006

Do you want to know what book is ranked 30,104 right now at Amazon.com? Wrong. It's The Art of Stop-Motion, but don't take my word for it:

"Beginning with a history of stop-motion animation, The Art of Stop-Motion Animation takes you on a unique journey uncovering the origins of this art form and examining what continues to draw viewers to these films. Through several hands-on exercises, you?ll learn how to create puppets and how to bring them to life as you create your own stop-motion film. Interviews with industry professionals offer a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look into the undying art form of stop-motion animation."

Mr. Finnegan brought this book in and let me flip through, then he took it back. So I'll have to run out and buy my own copy I guess.

The point is it's a fun book not only to look at but to own. Come on, let's bring Amazon.com numbers up!

Hiring Stop-Motion Animators

Saturday, August 05, 2006

I found this stop-motion job opening at AWN, and I thought it would be real fun to share it with you.

"Wapos Bay Productions is now accepting applications for Stop-Motion Animators for their series Wapos Bay. Animation is currently slated to begin in November of 2006." Click here for more info.

These cats are in Saskatchewan, Canada. So if you're into that sort of thing, send them your stuff. It's great to see more and more people hiring.
