"The Art of Ray Harryhausen"

Monday, April 24, 2006

This past Saturday, Harv and I went to meet Ray Harryhausen who was signing his latest book, entitled "The Art of Ray Harryhausen". Who is Ray Harryhausen? Who are YOU and why are you reading this blog? You're obviously not the stop-motion nerd we thought you were. Ray Harryhausen has been called the "godfather of stop-motion". He created some of the greatest moments in stop-motion special effects. His films include "Jason and the Argonauts" and "Clash of the Titans", among many others.

Starvin' For Some Garvin'

Thursday, April 20, 2006

The great DP on Robot Chicken is Bryan Garver, a fast yet brilliant lighting master who has a ton of stages to light a day, often with many turn arounds. Since Robot Chicken has such a variety of sets, it amazing how he can get it all done on time with his signature "perfect" look. So here is a link to the adultswim site where he explains the process of how he lights each shot. Choose the link that says "Lighting and the Mood".

United We Stand

Thursday, April 13, 2006

In case you live under rock here is the United Airlines "Dragon" commercial for Super Bowl XL. Filmed in Ojai with some dudes we worked on Disaster! with, they used cut-out puppets for this stop-motion masterpiece. Great work Kim, Justin, and Morgan!
Here is a link for a behind the scenes video.

It's A Switch

Wednesday, April 12, 2006

My stop-motion sources tell me that perhaps the Luke Skywalker puppet is a fake. If that's true, don't buy it. On that note I found an alien in my pool and took pictures of him.

And You Thought It Smelled Bad On The Outside

Tuesday, April 11, 2006

Here is a link for an original Luke Skywalker foam puppet from The Empire Strikes on Ebay, for only $1,000 bones. What an amazing piece of history, but it looks like it may have seen better days. Foam isn't forever I guess. Speaking of mortality, the puppet also comes with a real cool hand written note from someone that worked at ILM, proving that it's not a fake. Is it just me, or does that chicken scratch look like the same handwriting that also wrote Kurt Cobain's suicide note? Is this a conspiracy? You be the judge.

Majikal Manning

Saturday, April 08, 2006

Our good friend, Majik Matt Manning aka "The Miracle Baby" has just finished work on a commercial for our pals over at G4 Television. They made 4 spots, all of which will be airing soon. The puppets are Star Trek figures, and it has a Robot Chicken feel to it. Good job Manning! Check out the two spots here and here.

State Of The Stop-Motion Address

Wednesday, April 05, 2006

Here is a great link from adweek that talks about what a great year the stop-motion industry has had. From two Oscar nominated films to season two of Robot Chicken, it's all covered. Don't be lazy, the article is a page and a half. Click here to enjoy this great link. As Tennessee would say, "Stop-motion revolution baby".

Robot Chicken 2 Coming Out Party

Sunday, April 02, 2006

The new season of Robot Chicken 2 premiered tonight on Adult Swim, and here are a few pictures of the party celebrating the occasion. Liz and Tennessee each got a song in on karaokee, and Seth did a "gansta rap". Also, to borrow a few pics from Tennessee's plog, Moral Orel and Robot Chicken are #1 and #3 this year for animated shows. Entertainment Weekly made that bold claim in this weeks issue.
